Group work can be challenging, but it is also a very effective way of working with children, youths, and adults. Many issues have been found to be better treated through group that individually. This workshop will help participants strengthen their knowledge and skills in being able to run effective groups involving patients, clients, or residents in a health care or community setting.
Participants will learn how to make critical decisions when forming groups and to establish what their role should be to maximized effectiveness in facilitating group. Participant will also learn how to deal with conflict and utilized group issues as learning moments.
Learning objectives.
Participant will learn how to set up a group to have the best outcome.
Identify group phase and group interventions at each phase.
Describe group roles and how to intervene therapeutically.
Develop skills to deal with group conflict and other problems that can occur.
Identify specific activities /tools /games to use with groups and how to alter group to fit specific population.
This workshop is open to health care professionals, registered nurses, practical nurses, mental health nurses, mental health professionals, professional working in palliative care, pediatric, women health diabetic management, recreation therapist, addictions counselors, child/ youth worker, or any health care professionals working in a long term care or community setting .
Course duration 12 hours runs over 2 Saturdays. Upon completion a certificate of a group facilitator is awarded
